We've Got your Back!

WASHINGTON, DC — Yesterday afternoon Congressman Dennis Cardoza introduced HR 6462, the “Jose Rivera Correctional Officer Protection Act” to provide all federal correctional officers with stab-proof vests. The bill authorizes $20 million for the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to purchase the vests and mandates that officers wear them while on duty. >>Continue<<

The American Correctional Officer Intelligence Network is proud to serve the many of our men and women who walk the halls of our nation's toughest jails and prisons.  To better assist, and support them we have compiled a members handbook that explains, and describes the many services provided by ACOIN, and ACO.

Acts of valor are a common occurrence in our profession. Every year throughout our correctional facilities officers perform great acts of courage, usually under extreme conditions and without recognition for their efforts and sense of  personal safety. All too often, these acts of heroism are overlooked, and unfortunately never given recognition by the general public, the media, their departments, and regrettably their own unions.

As members of the American Correctional Officer we are constantly addressing issues related to image enhancement, updated state of the art safety equipment and supplies, and ultimately keeping the public informed about the dangers surrounding the corrections profession.

In our continuous efforts to keep corrections professionals at the forefront of the Law Enforcement occupation, we have planned the American Correctional Officer Medal Of Honor Award distinguishing those officers who have performed selflessly and without regard for danger to themselves in performing their everyday duties.

Please take time to nominate a fellow officer who you feel has gone “Beyond the Call of Duty” and deserves the opportunity to be recognized as a Medal of Honor nominee.

Please join us in congratulating the winners at the American Correctional Officer National Convention Medal of Honor Awards Banquet and ceremony in Flagstaff, Arizona on September 26, 2008.

ACO On the Attack

ACO’s efforts and those of several other leading corrections unions and associations across the nation have spurred the private prison industry into action. The article below shows how much of an impact the legislation we are supporting is having. One piece of legislation, the Private Prison Information Act, was originally drafted by ACO/ACOIN Executive Director Brian Dawe and former ACO President Richard Loud.

When you support ACO/ACOIN you are supporting your profession from coast to coast. How do you fight an organization that has so much money to spend? We fight it with the truth. But in order to combat them we need your support now more than ever. It costs a lot of money to run ads, do the research and travel across the nation to confront these corporations. We have recently been involved in defeating private prison initiatives in Doan Springs, Arizona and in Savinaw, Oklahoma. We can’t do it without your support, join us today!

ACO and ACOIN wish you and yours the very best for 2008.

In our first year we have made some incredible gains and distributed hundreds of pages of timely information to help our fellow Officers across the nation. One of our greatest accomplishments is the establishment of and contributions to TEN BENEVOLENT FUNDS, to help our brothers and sisters across the land. The level of contributions we make are the direct result of the number of individual members we have. The more of you who join the more Officers and their families we can help. >>Continue<<
